Neighborhood News & Events

If you haven't paid your dues for this year please bring a check to our next meeting. UAP needs your support!

There are a variety of crime and safety issues impacting our neighborhood these days, including a new student initiative on safety, new measures by APD to improve graffiti enforcement and prevention, and the new PACE program designed to ensure parties and other public assemblies, in west campus and elsewhere, are safe and lawful.   We will have representatives from APD on hand to give you the latest on all these various issues.

At our last meeting

Last month, we heard a presentation from APD Lt. Ronald Potts about PACE.   PACE stands for Public Assembly Code Enforcement, and is a joint effort by City Code Enforcement, APD, Austin Fire Department, DPS, and TABC.   In our neighborhood, there has been considerable concern about noise generated by parties, about underage drinking at parties, and about the safety of temporarily erected structures, barries, and decorations.    PACE is a coordinated enforcement effort targetting these concerns.   We heard concerns from student representatives about the way some of the rules were being enforced, and indeed that the rules in were some cases unclear.   UAP hopes to work with all concerned to give fraternities and other campus area groups having parties and gatherings clear guidelines that are possible to follow, while helping PACE to improve the quality of life in our neighborhood and the safety of parties and public assemblies.   Stay tuned for regular updates on this issue.

Our Next Meeting:

Our next regular meeting will be Tuesday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m., Newman Hall, 2026 Guadalupe.
